“Subscription Error: The account is suspended” – What It Means on Divi & Mailerlite, and What to Do

by | May 21, 2024 | Divi Theme, WordPress | 0 comments

Testing your Divi Email Optin and receiving the following error?

“Subscription Error: The account is suspended.”

This just happened on one of my affiliate sites.

There hasn’t been any new subscribers in a couple weeks so I double-checked the form. Lo and behold, it returns the above error message and the subscriber is not added to the Mailerlite list.

In short, people have been trying to subscribe to my newsletter, but couldn’t because of this error.

I searched for the error message extensively and couldn’t find anything in the Mailerlite Knowledge base nor anywhere else online.

So I contacted Elegant Themes chat support. They responded:

I tried testing the Email option form and I was able to replicate the issue too.

Mailerlite introduced a new API system, which isn’t compatible with Divi yet. This is a known issue, and our developers are aware of it, and are working on fixing it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Unfortunately, there is no ETA on a solution that I can provide now. Though I can assure you that issues are addressed as quickly as possible based on our development team’s current workload and the severity of the issue when compared to the severity of other open issues.

You can try with the old API of Mailerlite if you can generate it from Mailerlite. Another option is to use the embedded forms from MailerLite:

Or you can use the WordPress MailerLite plugin for now instead of Bloom or the Email Optin module:

Why This Is Concerning

It is obviously problematic (and disappointing) that neither Elegant Themes nor Mailerlite have issued any public announcement warning users of this issue. Divi is the #2 most used WordPress Theme on the entire internet, whilst Mailerlite is the second most popular marketing automation tool globally. There’s probably thousands of Divi websites using Mailerlite for Email Optin who are totally unaware that users can’t sign up to their email newsletter anymore. Go test yours right now.

No ETA is concerning. It seems Elegant Themes has continued to ignore user demand and funnel their dev resources into paid AI add-ons to the exclusion of fixing long-time and very new breaking issues.

I replied to the chat asking for how long they have been aware.

No answer.
