November 2023 – SEO in a Nutshell

by | Nov 30, 2023 | SEO Newsletter | 0 comments

I’ve read dozens of SEO articles and forum discussions in November, so you don’t have to.

Featured this month are page speed advice from John Mueller, Google’s organization structured data update, and a major WordPress plugin breach.

Here’s the top three:

“I reduced my image file sizes by 90%, but I saw no benefit on PageSpeed Insights!”

Overview:

John Mueller, Senior Search Analyst, from Google, responds. Simplify testing by isolating one element at a time on a noindex page. Determine their individual effects, before doing it altogether. If the combined page performs worse than the test pages, then there are other elements which are the limiting factors – meaning your test pages didn’t fully reflect the actual page.

Asad’s Take:

“Reduce image size” is the stock response for making a page load faster. But its not always enough for SEO benefit – especially when competitor websites are faster than yours. Mueller gives a very clean scientific method to adopt. Trial and error is essential here.

Google Now Supports More ‘Organization’ Structured Data Fields

[Article Source]

Overview:

Google supports more ‘Organization’ markup types, allowing companies to provide additional direct details about themselves. New company details may be showcased on the SERPS.

Asad’s Take:

Very actionable. Every website should have Organization markup. Add or expand with the new data types on your website ASAP. Here’s how to add markup on Divi.

WP Fastest Cache Plugin Exposes Over 600K+ WordPress Sites to SQL Injection Attacks

[Article Source]

Overview:

More than 600,000 WordPress sites could have their databases compromised through a vulnerability impacting the WP Fastest Cache plugin. Sensitive user information and account credentials are liable to exposure.

Asad’s Take:

WP Fastest Cache is one of the highest-rated cache plugins in the official WP directory, used by a million plus sites. This is a reminder to regularly backup your website and keep it updated. A hacked website is obviously terrible for SEO.
